Spring is here tomorrow and if you have not already stared to mulch and fertalize it is time to do so now before the summer heat sets in.
Benefits of mulching is to inhibit weeds, hold moisture, moderate soil temperature and keeps roots cooler. It also adds nutrients to the soil.
Here at Floreat Park we need the mulch to retain top soil and improve the soil as we have so much rock.
Types of mulch can be local leaf litter but as we all know we are short of that at present, so check out what is locally available and get mulching.

After plenty of heat and some good rain the plants we have been nurturing have survived. With the cooler weather we are focusing again on planting and removing lantana. It is amazing how the landscape of the area has changed and we all look forward to encouraging the native wildlife back to the area and filling in the Koala corridor gaps.

We have Just planted another 40 native plants and have been tending to them all so that they have a great start. With winter coming our way we are all planning to clear more of the lantana on our blocks and continue planting more trees for our local native animals and Koalas.
It has been great to see the progress we have made and that most of the plants have survived the weather and wallabies. We are looking forward to seeing our trees grow and planting more so that we re establish the area with native trees which will support the wildlife and create a natural micro habitat for frogs, smaller native plants, and insects.
